You want to feel like your head and your heart are on the same page again. To know that you have control over your thoughts and emotions and that you can move past the events that are keeping you stuck and from feeling whole.
But ever since you recognized the extent of your trauma, you’ve felt like you’re at war with yourself. You’re ready to get to the root of your symptoms, regain a sense of connection with others, and focus on the things in life beyond yourself. You’re ready for a solution.
You never would have thought you were the type of person to have been through trauma. Sure, you’ve had bad things happen in your past, but everyone you know has something that they’ve been through. You’ve had a tumultuous life and there are things that nag at you that you can never quite seem to move on from. It’s as if there’s this nagging sense of negativity that follows you around and makes you doubt yourself.
Now that you’re recognizing how much of an impact these events really had on you, your world is starting to shift. Everything you trusted about yourself and your truth has changed. You’ve lost your sense of self and who you are and you’re beginning to question every decision you’ve made. You wonder if the people you’ve invited into your life aren’t directly related to everything you’ve been through. And the strange sense that something isn’t quite right seems to tie back to each of your negative experiences.
So here you are, feeling like a shell of yourself wondering if you will ever experience feeling whole, in control, peace, and calm.
Every day is a battle. You can’t stop reliving what happened to you, you’re feeling anxious all the time, and your sense of who you are is spiraling out of control.
You don’t negate what happened to you. You now believe what you’ve been through truly is traumatic. But you don’t want to feel powerless the rest of your life. Truly, you want the opposite.
To feel safe in your own body again and to trust yourself. You know there will always be people and circumstances that are beyond your control, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start to recognize toxic situations and set healthy boundaries.
That’s not to say you’ll never be afraid or unbalanced again. Every day ups and downs are inevitable. What you didn’t expect was how long-lasting the effects of your situation have been. That just when you start to think you’re getting better, something insignificant will trigger your memories and you feel like you’re right back at the beginning again. And you certainly didn’t expect to lose your identity or to become a victim.

The Trauma Therapy Process
Trauma Counseling can help you safely peel back the layers of what you’ve been through so you can get to the core of your concerns. Together, you and I will go through this process of exploration and I will support you as you heal your wounds. We will take an intentional approach to your treatment and work to clarify the role trauma has played in your life. We will also work to establish an immediate safe space and then dive deeper to gain a true understanding of the traumatic experiences you have endured. You are in charge and we will work as slow or as fast as you are comfortable with.
You and I will meet together weekly for 50-minute sessions. Typically, counseling continues for several weeks or months, but the duration of your time in therapy will depend on the complexity of your concerns and what you would like to accomplish in therapy.
Here’s what to expect:
WEEK ONE: Intake
During this initial session, you and I will meet to define the counseling relationship and discuss the details of informed consent. I will then gather information about your biological, psychological, and social history and how this is impacting your current situation. We will also discuss the benefits and limitations of therapy. We will explore grounding skills and practice at least one skill that you will be able to use outside of session.
WEEK TWO and Beyond: Trauma Counseling
Together, in each subsequent session, you and I will use evidenced-based psychotherapy models to help you experience less shame and fear. This typically includes the use of Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, and learning more about trauma.
Each session is designed to help you begin to feel comfortable in your own skin. Together, you and I will connect in a therapeutic space with the goal of helping you find and recognize peace.
TERMINATION: 1-2 Final Sessions
In your final sessions, you will review your goals to ensure you are satisfied with your counseling experience and that the work you and I have done together has met your expectations. We will also outline a plan going forward so that you are able to retain what you have worked on together and implement all you have learned outside of session.
